Open Door Medical Development is an apolitical, nongovernmental philanthropic association. They are Christian medical missionaries, operating a free clinic in Cameroon. Their philosophy is based on the premise that a holistic approach is the only way to successfully demonstrate Christ's love in the world today. Open Door has given medical training to young Cameroonians for 15 years as physician assistants. During this period, they graduated 100 students who are now operating all over Cameroon. They have used their skills to impact the healthcare needs, of the people in remote villages, and at the same time become gainfully employed; making a living for themselves while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Christ upbraided the people, for following him only for the bread and fish, which they ate to fill themselves, and not because of the miracles that he did. Jesus, however, continued to give them bread with the hope that, through this earthly temporal bread He could lead them to the Bread of life. When a man eats, that bread, he will never hunger again.
Dr.John and Omelda Hibbert, medical missionaries from the United States, have been coming to Cameroon for the past 20 years to give free medical care to the people of the villages along with Health Teams International. In March 2005, the Hibberts moved to Cameroon permanently. In September of that year, they opened a school and 2 months later opened the free clinic in Limbe. They have dispensed medication worth 12,000,000 FCFA free of charge. With the help of other medical visitors from the U.S., they have been to the following villages, to give medical care and present the gospel: Bombe, Bimbia, Bangem, Bakingili, Bota, Bojongo, Bamunka, Babungo, Kai, Kombone, Wovia, Galim, Idenau, Muyuka, Yoke, Mapanja, Penja, Mokundange, Limbola and Moliwe.
In addition, they teach preventive care to hundreds of patients. Subjects dealt with, including, hygiene, clean water, sanitation, hypertension, cholesterol, malaria, diabetes, nutrition and childcare.
Open door physician assistant school was closed in 2016 due to civil conflict in the North-west region.
